Think Small!

think smallThe typical motivational message is to reach for the moon, think big, nothing is impossible…and although idealistically there are no limits on our progress sometimes this approach simply does not work.

How many of you at one time or another decided you are going to…

lose 30 pounds…

overcome anxiety

train for a half marathon…

quit smoking…

Only to peter out well before reaching your goal?

Chances are you have tried multiple times for the same goal with similar results.

The problem is we all have self-doubts that hinder us from accomplishing some of these lofty goals. We simply don’t REALLY believe we can do it so our inner belief system self-sabotages our progress.

Well what if instead of the goals listed above you set out to…

lose 1 pound…

quiet your mind and emotions for 1 minute per day…

train to run to the stop sign and back…

cut back from 20 cigarettes a day to 19 per day…

Do you think there’s a better chance of pulling these off?

Once you figure out how to lose one pound then all you have to do is repeat the process…now work on 2 minutes a day of peace…run to the stop sign and back twice and go from 19 to 18 smokes.

If the suggestions above are out of reach than make your goals even smaller.

Weight loss programs, anxiety treatments and other self-help courses can be great but use them as a guide within what works for you. Just because someone else lost 30 pounds using a certain program doesn’t mean you will achieve the same results in the same time-frame.

The best way to change something in your life is “what is best for you”…don’t set yourself up for failure and discouragement with an unrealistic goal.

How can you think small today and begin changing your life for the better?
