Typical Anxiety Frustration!
“No great thing is created suddenly.
– Epictetus, philosopher
A typical anxiety frustration for many people is they understand what needs to be done to curb excessive worrying but they don’t seem like they are able to make it happen in their life.
People try so hard but get discouraged when it feels like their efforts are futile, this frustration leads to more anxiety and creates a vicious circle.
We all know if you plant an apple seed in good soil and water it, the seed will eventually take root and with the right conditions grow into a fruit bearing tree.
How many of you have the patience to sit and watch this process?
In a similar way remember a time when you took a course and the instructor taught you in detail step by step how to do whatever you were there to learn. In your mind you understood the process and believed in the knowledge you were given but did this make you an expert on the subject once the course was completed?
Would it not be reasonable to expect to take years to practice and assimilate this training into a skilled craft?
This is the same with anxiety and all the tips, tricks, training and counselling you’ve received.
You may understand the concept of A + B = C but to implement this into your mind, heart, emotions and routine of life is not an overnight task.
By being gracious and patient with yourself you take significant pressure off yourself and provide yourself with a comfortable and accepting atmosphere to practice all you’ve learned over the years.
Our “instant” driven society tends to make us want it all NOW but “no great thing is created suddenly” and if it’s built with excellence with the intention of longevity the result is well worth the wait.
Don’t give into this typical anxiety frustration but rather cut yourself a break and enjoy the scenery along the way.
